If you're a fan of spicy sauces, this Greek Yogurt Sriracha Sauce is perfect for things like salmon bowls, shrimp tacos, or a dipping sauce with sweet potato slices or french fries. It's made with simple ingredients and it's as easy as combining everything in a bowl!

As a dietitian, one of my favorite ways to add more flavor to meals is with a really good sauce or healthy condiment. And while store-bought sauces and dressings certainly have a place in my pantry, I like to make my own versions when I have an extra couple of minutes. This Greek yogurt sriracha sauce is a healthier version of spicy mayo. What I love about it is that creamy Greek yogurt gives you a similar consistency while also adding protein and some calcium!
My favorite way to enjoy this homemade sauce is in cooked salmon sushi bowls with sesame soy salmon bites, cucumber mango salad, shredded romaine lettuce, and cilantro lime rice. It also makes a great dipping sauce to serve with pita chips, cucumber slices, or french fries. Or drizzle it over your favorite sheet pan dinner or burger bowl for a spicy addition to take dinner to the next level!

Key Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
This Greek yogurt sriracha sauce is made with simple ingredients. Below are some ingredient notes. Check the recipe card at the bottom for ingredient measurements.

- Plain Greek Yogurt - using Greek yogurt is a healthier option to replace a majority of the mayonnaise often found in a creamy spicy sauce. It makes this recipe lower in saturated fats and calories while providing the same flavors and creamy texture. You can replace plain yogurt with whipped cottage cheese or do a half and half mayo + yogurt mixture.
- Mayonnaise - just a little bit of mayo goes a long way. If you don't want to use mayo, you can cut it out and use extra Greek yogurt.
- Sriracha Sauce - if you're not familiar with it, sriracha sauce is a hot sauce originally from Thailand. It's a blend of red chili peppers, vinegar, garlic, a small bit of sugar, and salt. A little goes a long way so I suggest starting on the lighter end and adding to taste.
- Lime Juice - fresh lime juice adds a ton of flavor and brightness. Lime also contains ascorbic acid, a natural preservative. You can use lemon juice instead if you prefer. Either will work!
- Honey - a small bit of honey adds a touch of sweetness to balance everything out. You can replace it with pure maple syrup if you prefer.
- Garlic Powder - I use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic because it's more concentrated and a little goes a long way. If you want, you can use 1-2 cloves of fresh garlic instead.
- optional: kosher salt if you feel it needs it. I don't personally add any to this sauce.
How to Make Greek Yogurt Sriracha Sauce
Below are the step-by-step instructions for how to make this easy recipe with some visuals that I hope are helpful! Check the recipe card at the bottom for the full recipe.

- Step 1: Add everything to a small bowl. Mix really well to make sure it's well combined.

- Step 2: Give it a taste and add more sriracha until it's the spice level you prefer.
Hint: if you taste it and it's too spicy, you can balance it out by adding more honey or mayo.
Dietitian Tip
Simple recipe swaps like replacing a majority of the mayo traditionally added to creamy sriracha sauces with a mixture of mayo and Greek yogurt cuts down the amount of calories and saturated fats. It also adds nutrients like probiotics for gut health, protein and calcium.
Variations
The best part about making this creamy sauce at home is you can customize it to your taste. Below are some ideas.
- Smoky - add a pinch of smoked paprika or chipotle powder for a smokier heat
- Fresh Ginger - add fresh or ground ginger for a more Asian-inspired profile
- Avocado - blend in a little avocado for extra creaminess and healthy fats.
- Thinner - thin it out with a little rice vinegar and olive oil if you want more of a dressing than a dipping sauce consistency.
Ideas for Serving Greek Yogurt Sriracha Sauce
- With Salmon Rice Bowls - my favorite way to serve this sauce is in a sushi style bowl with sesame soy salmon cubes (I make mine in the air fryer), cucumber mango salad, cilantro lime rice, and a drizzle of this sauce on top.
- On Poke Bowls - a classic topping for poke bowls with rice, fresh fish, sliced cucumber, and edamame.
- A Crispy Rice Salad - add it to a crispy rice salad made by cooking the rice in the oven with some soy sauce and sesame oil and serve over your favorite greens (romaine would work great here) and a can of tuna or salmon for a balanced lunch.
- As a Sauce for Tacos - add a spicy component to cilantro lime shrimp tacos, shrimp tacos with hot honey shrimp or fish tacos by drizzling this sauce on top or dipping the tacos in it.
- A Dipping Sauce - if you don't want plain ketchup for french fries, use this sauce to add a spicy kick. It goes great with diced sweet potatoes, sweet potato slices, or sweet potato fries too. If you want something lighter, carrot, celery, or cucumber sticks are delicious with it too.
- Burger Bowls or Burgers - this is the perfect sauce if you're looking for something different to serve with turkey burgers or on burger bowls and you're a fan of spicy sauces.
Storage for Greek Yogurt Sriracha Sauce
- Refrigerator - store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

Expert Tips
- Start with a tablespoon of sriracha and add more to taste depending on how spicy you like it.
- To make it easier to serve, you can add it to a squeeze bottle like this one.
- If you're making it in advance, give it another stir right before serving.
FAQ
While healthy means something different to everyone, this is a nutrient-dense sauce that provides some protein and is a lower calorie option than regular spicy mayo.
You can balance it out by adding more honey or mayo!
For sure! I love the combo of cottage cheese and sriracha too. I suggest blending the cottage cheese to make it more creamy and smooth.
