WELCOME TO MALLORY THE DIETITIAN!
I'm here to help you make simple fresh meals.
As a Registered Dietitian, I believe that food is foundational to good health. But as a busy human, I also believe that getting a meal on the table doesn’t have to be complicated. It starts with a great recipe.
But I don’t just want to share recipes with you. I’m also here to teach you about food and nutrition. And I love sharing cooking tips, brands I use, and my favorite ways to support local in my city: Austin, Texas.
So come on in, grab a seat at my table, and make yourself at home.
My Background as a Registered Dietitian
Education: I graduated with my BS in Nutrition Sciences from Baylor University in 2009 and completed my dietietic internship at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in 2011. I passed my National Registered Dietitian exam in 2011.
Clinical Experience: I worked in clinical nutrition in a long term acute care setting and an oncology floor, and then several years at a pediatric hospital in a gastroenterology clinic and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Needless to say, I learned a lot about nutrition, but even more about life itself and the value of helping others heal.
Current Career: I have spent the past nearly 6 years working for the American Heart Association and I am the Senior Business Development Manager for an on-pack food certification program. I work with food brands, commodity boards, and retailers on their health and wellness marketing strategies. I also help with nutrition initiatives that focus on closing the gap on nutrition insecurity and implementing systems to decrease food waste. I strongly believe that nourishing foods should be accessible to all.
It's nice to meet you!
Aside from work, I love staying active in Austin and finding new ways to get involved in my community, traveling, pretty much any kind of exercise, spending time with family and friends, and petting every single dog that I come across. I also proudly wear the “Aunt Mal” title to several of my friend’s kiddos and my own 2 nieces and nephew. I lost my rescue boxer dog in 2023 year after nearly 11 years together, so at the moment I am dog sitting for other people through Rover to get my fill of puppy love.
I Hope You Try and Love my Recipes!
I hope you find something you love here. I am working hard to make content that resonates because I am passionate about helping people live healthier, whatever that means to you. I just want more people to feel great, and I truly believe nutrition is foundational to mental and physical health!
My Nutrition Philosophy
My own personal nutrition philosophy is that I enjoy food both for taste and nourishment. Every single ingredient provides its own nutrients and health benefits and I totally geek out on that stuff. Mother nature is a really cool gal so I like hanging with her and learning about her as much as I can. 😉 I don’t tend to follow trends, and I eat a Mediterranean-ish eating pattern including whole foods (mostly plants), healthy fats, seafood and lean meats and whole grains and of course some dessert, coffee, and wine thrown in. I go with balance, variety, and moderation. I love to eat huge portions, so I add a lots of nutrient rich veggies to my meals.
The way I see it, this site is a result of 3 things: 1.) my love for great-tasting food, 2.) my nutrition education and background after 12 years as a dietitian and 3.) my desire to teach and share with others in a way that actually gets you in the kitchen! I grew up with a mom who cooked nearly every night. I know how I lucky I am for that and I want to pass some of that goodness along. And I hope you’ll join me and pass a little of it along, too!
Come on in and make yourself at home....
I built this page for YOU. Food is more than just fuel. It’s community, culture, an art form, and an opening for endless possibilities for creativity. It’s an expression of love, a comfort, and familiar smells in the kitchen that can transport you back in time. And if you do it right, food is healing and the key to taking care of your body. So whether you want to learn a little something, find a new favorite recipe, get recommendations for what brands to buy, or are looking for what to eat in Austin, you’ve come to the right place.
