This Christmas Hummus Wreath is a great last-minute appetizer for the busy holiday season! All you need is hummus, veggies, a round platter, and a small bowl.
As a dietitian, I love cheesy dips like my Whipped Ricotta and Hot Honey Feta Dip. But at the end of the day, nothing beats a hummus mixture. And this festive and delicious hummus appetizer is a Christmassy twist on a regular ole' bowl of hummus.
Hummus is made from chickpeas and provides plant protein and healthy fats. Adding fresh veggies on top is a total bonus and provides even more nutrition, color, and flavor. When it comes to Christmas appetizers, this one is always a favorite!
Use my Mediterranean Hummus, Zesty Za'atar Hummus or High Protein Hummus as the base of this recipe to take it to the next level!

Key Ingredients and Substitutions
This festive hummus wreath is made with simple ingredients. Below is the list of ingredients. Be sure to check the printable recipe card at the bottom for exact ingredient measurements and complete recipe.
- Hummus - you can use store-bought hummus to make this recipe even faster. If I have a few extra minutes, I love making my homemade Mediterranean hummus for this recipe. Use your favorite hummus flavor.
- Red Bell Pepper - you'll use the bottom of a red pepper to make the bow that goes at the top of the hummus.
- Cucumber - I love chopping a crisp English cucumber to add some crunch and more green color for this hummus wreath.
- Cherry Tomatoes - cherry tomatoes are perfect for resembling red flowers that can often be found on a holiday wreath.
- Fresh Herbs - I add a fresh parsley layer to this hummus wreath, but you could use basil, mint, or even thyme or rosemary instead.
- Feta Cheese - feel free to leave this off if you are dairy-free but adding feta cheese provides a salty component and that pairs great with the vegetables and hummus.
- Optional: toasted pine nuts, a drizzle of olive oil, green onions, and a squeeze of lemon on top.
How to Make a Hummus Wreath
Below is a summary of the steps for how to make this recipe with some visuals that I hope are helpful! Don't forget to check out the recipe card at the bottom for the full recipe.
- Step 1: Start by preparing the bow. To make the bow, cut off the bottom of your red bell pepper and then cut the bottom in half. This will be the 2 sides of your bow. Cut 2 long slices of the pepper to make the ends of the bow and a small square to be the center of the bow. Set the components of the bow aside.
- Step 2: Place a small bowl in the center of a round platter to make the center of your wreath. Add large scoops of hummus around the bowl and use a rubber scraper or the flat side of a spoon to smooth out the hummus around the bowl into a wreath shape. Be sure to get the hummus up to the edge of the bowl.
- Step 3: Chop the cucumber, more of the bell pepper, and parsley. Add the chopped bell peppers, cucumbers, a sprinkle of feta cheese, and parsley on top of the hummus layer of the entire wreath. Place the cherry tomatoes around the wreath.
- Step 4: Arrange the bell pepper pieces into a bow at the top center of the finished wreath. Optional: add a drizzle of olive oil, squeeze of lemon juice, green onions and toasted pine nuts on top.
Hint: serve with a bowl of pita chips in the middle of the wreath!

Homemade hummus is so easy to make and it tastes better than store-bought hummus in my opinion! It really only takes about 5 minutes. I love using my homemade Mediterranean Hummus for this recipe when I'm in charge of the appetizer. Another great option is a high protein hummus made with cottage cheese.
