Key Ingredient Notes and Substitution Ideas
These creamy Greek yogurt bites are made with simple ingredients. Below are some ingredient notes. Check the recipe card at the bottom for measurements.

- Greek Yogurt - plain Greek yogurt is the base for this recipe. I have tested it using either whole-fat Greek yogurt or nonfat. In my opinion, either one works! The whole fat is a bit more rich and creamy. If you want to make a dairy-free option, use your favorite dairy-free yogurt like coconut yogurt, almond milk yogurt, or cashew yogurt.
- Peanut Butter - natural peanut butter makes these bites extra creamy and adds flavor, some plant protein, and healthy fats! Feel free to use almond butter or cashew butter if you prefer. For a nut-free option, use sunflower butter. You could even use cookie butter.
- Maple Syrup - just a bit of maple syrup for sweetness. You can use honey or agave syrup or your favorite sweetener.
- Vanilla Extract - an easy way to add a creamy vanilla flavor.
- Chocolate Chips - you'll melt the chocolate to coat the frozen bites! If you want to make this recipe even easier, you can simply drizzle it on top. You can use dark chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips. Either will work in this delicious treat.
- Avocado Oil - I use avocado oil to thin out my chocolate chips while they melt to make the yogurt bites easier to coat. This is optional and some people prefer to use coconut oil. I use avocado oil because it is lower in saturated fat. Extra-virgin olive oil works too.
- Optional: Sea Salt - use a bit of sea salt to top it off for the perfect finishing touch.
How to Make Frozen Greek Yogurt Bites
Below are the instructions for how to make these froyo bites with photos that I hope are helpful. Check out the recipe card at the bottom for the full recipe.

- Step 1: In a mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, peanut butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.

- Step 2: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop about 1Tbsp of the Greek yogurt mixture onto the parchment-lined baking sheet until all the mixture is used. To make it easier, use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop. Place the bites in the freezer for about 4 hours.

- Step 3: Once the Greek yogurt bites are frozen, add the chocolate chips and avocado oil to a microwave-safe bowl. Melt the chocolate chips by heating in 30-second intervals in the microwave, stirring well in between, until it's fully melted.

- Step 4: Dip the frozen Greek yogurt bites in the melted chocolate until they are coated in chocolate. Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top of the chocolate coating.
Hint: The hardest part of this recipe is coating the Greek yogurt bites in chocolate. To make it even easier, simply drizzle the melted chocolate on top. It might not look quite as pretty, but it'll taste just as good!

Variations
One of the best parts about Frozen Greek Yogurt Bites is that you can easily customize them with different flavor combinations to your taste. Below are a few ideas.
- Fresh Fruit - add your favorite fruit to this delicious snack! Fresh blueberries or chopped strawberries, peaches, or bananas all work great in frozen treats like this. Just mix in chopped or diced fruit with the Greek yogurt mixture before freezing. I've done it with both strawberries and blueberries and both are delicious.
- Yogurt Bark - turn it into yogurt bark by following the same recipe but instead of scooping it onto the baking sheet, pour it in a layer on the baking sheet and drizzle the melted chocolate on top once it's frozen.
- Chocolate - add cocoa powder to the Greek yogurt mix to double up on the chocolately flavor!
- High Protein - if you want to add protein, mix a scoop of your favorite protein powder into the Greek yogurt mix before freezing.
Storage for Frozen Greek Yogurt Bites
- Freezer - store frozen Greek yogurt bites in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months. Let them sit at room temperature for 3-5 minutes to let them thaw a bit before eating.
Expert Tips
- Be sure to stir the chocolate chips really good between 30 second intervals in the microwave to ensure the heat is evenly distributed and they melt evenly.
- Be careful when dipping the bites in the melted chocolate to coat them! I use a spoon to do this.
- If using sea salt on top, add it before the chocolate dries.
Dietitian tip
Desserts get a bad rep sometimes for being something reserved for special occasions. Instead of restricting yourself from eating sweets altogether, watch your portions and make healthier versions like this. These yogurt bites contain protein from the Greek yogurt, heart-healthy fats from the nut butter, and antioxidants from the dark chocolate.

FAQ
While healthy means something different to everyone, these frozen Greek yogurt bites are a nutrient-rich option. They contain protein from the yogurt and peanut butter, heart-healthy fats that also support brain health and hormone health from the nut butter, and probiotics for gut health from the yogurt. Relative to many other frozen treats, they have less added sugars and saturated fats.
Absolutely! To make it vegan, swap the Greek yogurt for your favorite plant based yogurt and be sure to use vegan chocolate chips.
Yes! Just make sure the chocolate chips you use are gluten free. Most chocolate chips on the market are.

Sue
Looking forward to making this! Can you tell me the sugar count if I leave out the maple syrup? Thanks,
Mallory
Hi Sue,
If you leave out the maple syrup it comes to 7g sugar per serving (the recipe makes ~16 of them!). If it's helpful, another way to cut down on sugar is to do 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and drizzle it on top instead of fully coating them (that would bring it to 5g per serving). I hope that helps!!! And I hope you enjoy them! 😊 -Mallory

Going to make these with some variations. Under “variations” above, you have listed - for chocolate version - cocoa butter. Did you mean cocoa powder? I’m going to use cocoa powder to give it a chocolate taste. I’m also going to do some with some chocolate truffle protein powder I have. And anything else I can find for flavor variations!
Mallory
Hi Marlene, I'm so happy to hear that you're going to give them a try! 😊 I did mean cocoa powder - thank you so much for pointing that out! Adding the chocolate protein powder is a great idea too! -Mallory

Debi
These look really good.. can't wait to try them but wondering if you can use another type of oil?
Mallory
Hi Debi, thank you so much for taking time to leave a comment! You can absolutely use a different oil. Coconut oil or olive oil would be my suggestions. I. hope that helps! -Mallory
Elle
Looking forward to trying this recipe! Do these offer the same health benefits of regular greek yogurt, or does the nutritional value change when frozen?
Mallory
Hi Elle!! I hope you enjoy it! 😀 the frozen provides the same nutritional value but a portion of the probiotics might not be as active. But you're still getting the protein, calcium, phosphorus, etc! I hope that helps! -Mallory
