Make this Whipped Cottage cheese with Fruit for a high-protein breakfast or a nutritious snack. It's a creamy combination of cottage cheese and strawberries sweetened with a little maple syrup and vanilla all topped off with juicy blueberries!
As a dietitian, I appreciate that cottage cheese has a high protein content to keep you satisfied and full while being relatively low calorie. Just a half cup of cottage cheese contains 14 grams of protein per serving- as much as nearly 4 egg whites! It also contains several essential nutrients including calcium, phosphorus, B vitamins, and selenium.
There are so many different ways to use cottage cheese in recipes from savory to sweet, but this whipped cottage cheese has a smoothie consistency and is a tried-and-true delicious recipe with simple ingredients.

Key Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
*This Cottage Cheese with Fruit Recipe is made with basic ingredients. Below are some ingredient notes. Be sure to check the printable recipe card at the bottom for exact ingredient measurements.
- Cottage Cheese - I use whole-fat Good Culture brand cottage cheese that contains live, active cultures. You can use low-fat or nonfat cottage cheese if you prefer. I have tested the recipe with both low-fat (2% milkfat) cottage cheese and whole-fat (4% milkfat) and both are perfectly creamy in consistency when whipped in the food processor or blender. You can substitute with Greek yogurt.
- Fresh Fruit - I use a strawberry & blueberry combo - fresh strawberries for blending the cottage cheese and more strawberries and blueberries for topping. You can change it up and use any fruit you love or what's accessible for you. Fresh or frozen fruits work!
- Maple Syrup - just a touch of maple syrup goes a long way in adding sweetness to cottage cheese and fruit and helps to off-set the salty flavor of the cottage cheese. You can substitute with honey, agave, or your sweetener of choice.
- Vanilla Extract - this is optional, but adding vanilla gives the cottage cheese bowl a cheesecake vibe.
- Mint - optional for topping. Fresh mint adds a refreshing kick to the cottage cheese breakfast bowl.

Variations
The best part about a cottage cheese bowl is you can customize it based on your preference and favorite fruit to make different flavors.
- Tropical - turn it into a tropical cottage cheese bowl by replacing the berries with frozen or fresh pineapple, mangoes, and peaches. Fruit cocktail is an easy way to get your kids to eat cottage cheese fruit bowls.
- Sweeter - add an extra teaspoon of maple syrup or double up on the fruit if you like your breakfast bowl on the sweeter side. Fruit is a great way to add sweetness without added sugars. A few chocolate chips on top would be yummy too!
- Heartier - add chia seeds, hemp seeds, or flax seeds for healthy fats and a thicker end result.
- Nutty - top with chopped almonds, cashews, walnuts, pecans, or pistachios! Add a tablespoon of nut butter.
Storage
Refrigerator: store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Registered Dietitian tip
Cottage Cheese contains 14 grams of protein per half cup serving! Protein can help you feel full for longer and helps to support hormone health.
But many people don't realize that cottage cheese also contains probiotics. Probiotics are great to incorporate into your diet for a healthy gut. Some cottage cheese brands are pasteurized and therefore do not contain live probiotics. Look for the words "live, active cultures" on the label! I use Good Culture brand.

I use the Good Culture brand and do either low-fat or whole-fat. Good Culture products don’t contain gums or thickeners and they have live, active cultures.
You can find it in the dairy aisle at the grocery store. You can also grab it on Amazon.
Usually cottage cheese is gluten-free, but some brands contain modified food starch so be sure to double check. If it does contain gluten, it will list “wheat” in the “may contain” section under the ingredient list.

I've never been a big fan of the texture of cottage cheese but I used your trick to blend it for about 30 seconds when I made this recipe and it actually turned out surprisingly tasty! I'll be making this one again!!!
