You’ve probably noticed that I’m a dietitian and my page has other topics listed in addition to nutrition. Things like fitness and stress management. You might have wondered why!
Let’s take a moment and talk about your health and wellness as a big picture using the graphic above as a visual.
There’s a cause-and-effect aspect to every part of your health. It’s a cycle, and if you take one of the pieces out, the whole cycle is out of sync. While I do believe that at any given time you may be putting more emphasis or focus on one aspect of your health, it isn’t until you put intention behind keeping all of it in check that you can achieve true wellness and live your best life. A healthy life that is maintainable and enjoyable.
Physical health, including what you eat and exercise are one piece of the puzzle. And the other pieces are things like your mental, emotional, social, behavioral, financial, and spiritual health.
Yes, what you eat is foundational. I could geek out on nutrition all day every day (mostly because I love food) . But health is so much more than just what you put in your mouth.
The truth is, there are a lot of emerging studies and research on total health and wellness as it relates to the mind-body connection.
So you can see that it is really difficult, if not impossible, for me to teach you about one aspect of your health (what you eat) and completely ignore the other parts. Taking care of yourself allows you to genuinely be present with the people you love and gives you the energy and mental capacity to take care of them in the best way, too!
